Career Assistance for Australian School Leavers Post-Covid 19

Class of 2020

Last month, our Year 12 students across Australia received their results from what was an extraordinarily challenging year! Acknowledging the additional support required, the Australian Federal Government has provided new resources to assist students through their upcoming transition.

We need to encourage school leavers and their parents to access the full range of resources available:

  1. “Your Career” website – Including a range of resources focused on school leavers. (https://yourcareer.gov.au/)
  2. School Leavers Information Service (Call 1800 CAREER) – Free access to direct support from qualified career practitioners.
  3. JobTrainer Program – For graduates planning to take on further study, school leavers have access to free or low-fee training in areas of skill need, through this new Program. (JobTrainer – MySkills)

Our advice for school leavers is to take the time to identify the skills they have developed already, including technical and transferable skills (e.g. leadership, team work and communication). Also, think about the skills they wish to focus on in future.

If you need help to match your skill preferences to training programs, consider consulting qualified career practitioners (like Strategic Career Coaching) for further assistance.
